This IS important!

I have noticed many people call this "A Frankenstein"
This is NOT a Frankenstein!
It is the monster created BY Dr Victor Frankenstein!
So Frankenstein is the DOCTOR'S name.
You can call the monster lots of names if you like...
"Adam of your labours"
"A modern Promethean"
"A reanimated corpse"
or best of all just "The/A monster"
But NOT "A Frankenstein" please...
-
BTW it's from the very famous novel
"Frankenstein" by Mary Shelley
You should check it out!

With 50% of the votes choosing a smurf!
You couldn't be more wrong!! I was a smurf when I was 3 years old. I was Rainbow Bright in preschool. I was a dog in elementary school. I was a cheerleader in middle school. I was a clown a few times. I was Cleopatra in University. And finally, I was a kangaroo just last year!

A not so funny joke...

Happy Thanksgiving Canada!!

Yesterday was Thanksgiving Day in Canada. It is a day to give thanks at the close of the harvest season. It is celebrated on a three-day long weekend in Canada, during which families might celebrate with a big Thanksgiving Day meal on any of the three days.

This photo is from my Thanksgiving meal yesterday in Japan. Usually families in Canada eat turkey but I substituted it with chicken.

Don't forget to check out the new poll question.

What I did on the weekend...

Well some of us went to see the new
Biohazard (Resident Evil) film "Resurrection"
last Saturday night and it was,
without a doubt,
one of the worst movies I have ever seen.
Now I don't expect zombie movies to be
brilliant works of artistic cinema,
I don't expect a deep and complex story
or even good acting
(I like horror and watch a lot of stupid films
so I know what I'm getting myself into).
All I really expect is to see zombies die
in as many amusing ways as possible.
Biohazard Resurrection couldn't even provide
the juvenile splatter I was hoping for.
I also don't think the nuclear bomb going off
in Tokyo at the beginning was a particularly
appropriate way to start a film, even a bad one.
Avoid this film at all costs,
you will just waste 2 hours of you life
that your will never get back...

Danger!!!

English can be confusing but sometimes it can also be dangerous.
We learn that the prefix "in~" makes a word
the opposite of its regular meaning.
For example "insecure" "insensitive" & "inexperienced".
The word "inflammable" however has the same meaning
as the word "flammable" (they both mean to burn easily).
WHY???
Well "inflammable" was the original word
(derived from inflame) so the "in~" in this case does not apply.
People thought this was a bit too confusing
and started using the word "flammable" instead.
So now we use both!
Just remember
FLAMMABLE & INFLAMMABLE
have exactly the same meaning.
Take care

Photo of the week!

Last night I went to Umeda to meet an old friend who was in town for the night. She has a very busy job and travels all over the world so I don't get to see her very often. So we stayed in a hotel to catch up!

Can you guess from the photo which hotel I stayed in?

Hint: It is a famous hotel chain found all over the world.

What a great song!

This is a classic song and video from my childhood!

I know a few of our younger students like to look at this blog and I hope they enjoy it as much as I use to!

I like ta' move it, move it...

Last weekend I went to Kyoto zoo.
It's not very big,
but it is close to my house and I was feeling lazy.
My favorite animal was the ring tailed lemur.
Some of them were still very young and cute.
Normally I like to see the meerkats
but they didn't have any.
What is your favorite animal to see at the zoo?
(so not dogs & cats etc).
