Loan words

Japanese borrows a lot of words from other languages,
mostly English & Portuguese.
English also borrows a lot of vocabulary.
Here is a fun list of interesting English words
that originally come from other languages.

Carry ti Jacques

Here is another recipe that is highly appreciated in Reunion. It is called "carry ti jacques". Like the "carry poulet", it is served on rice mixed with some onions, ginger and other spices. The ti jacques is an Indian fruit that Reunion started to cultivate in the XIXth (19th) century. It is pretty big and hard which is why you usually buy the fruit already cut into small pieces and ready to be cooked at the market. It is mixed with smoked pork. It is one of the dishes you can not miss when you go to Reunion!!

Reunion food

I am always asked a lot about Reunion food so even though I am not the greatest cook I will dedicate a few posts to some delicious food you`ve never tried ^^
One of my favorite dishes is "carry poulet". It is basically chicken with spices and tomato sauce served on rice. You always have some hot sauce on the side too.
Reunion food mixes flavors and tastes from many countries. Therefore some dishes are a bit indian, some are chinese,... it is really good!

TACOCAT

TACOCAT backwards is TACOCAT
This is a palindrome, a word that reads the
same forwards as it does backwards.
Can you think of any others?

Under the sea

Funny pictures, don`t you think? The last one is a bit gross but...!!

Les Miserables

Yesterday I went to see Les Miserables. I read the book when I was a child. The trailer intrigued me and made me feel like watching the whole movie. I read lots of reviews about how great the movie was and heard many good things about it. Although I always try not to have too much expectation from a movie this time I did. And unfortunately, even so it wasn`t bad, I guess I did expect more...More violence, more tears, more miserablity!!...Felt very moved by Heathway`s "I dreamed a dream" though.

Control Your Computer With The Touch Of Your Hand

I'm sure you have all seen something like this in the movies.  Being able to control your computer just by moving your hands, swiping your fingers, or even by moving your eyes.  Well, this technology is becoming real!  All the cool gadgets that we have seen in the movies are becoming real and available to normal people like us and not just to MI6, CIA, FBI, or any other secret organization.  This technology will be available for just $70.  Yes that's right 70 USD.  So any one interested in buying this?  I am!

shopping freak

The second week of my stay in France, I spent my time eating, having fun with my family AND shopping!! I bought sooooo many things!!! But I was there for that since I can almost never shop in Japan the clothes and the shoes being far too small...so I took revenge and that felt good!  Sales started on the 9th and I sure enjoyed them! Had to leave a few items with my family at the airport though because my suitcase was too heavy...

Come with us now on a journey through time and space... to the world of the Mighty Boosh

My favorite TV show has finally been translated into Japanese!
It's a little old now, (started around 2004)
and every time I went to rent a DVD I would look for it
as I wanted to show my Japanese friends.
Until now though, you couldn't get it with Japanese subtitles.
But now you can!
So next rainy day when you are looking for something to watch,
give The Mighty Boosh a try.
It's a crazy stupid british comedy.
Now don't worry,
I know sometimes comedies can be difficult to understand
(Why is that funny? I don't get it...)
but this one is so absurd that you no one really understands it.
Just enjoy the insanity.

skiing

I went back to France for 2 weeks to see my family for New Year and I really had a good time. I went skiing the first week in Auron. It is a small ski resort located next to Nice, southern France. I hadn`t skied for like 15 years so I was terrified the first 5 minutes but I quickly got used to it actually. I guess surfing helps! Not that I have the chance to practice that much in Japan but!

Fun Toy or Dangerous Spy Tool?

Do you think this is a fun toy or dangerous spying tool?  Well, the answer is both depending on the person.  These drones with cameras will be available to everyone at a pretty affordable price.  They range from about $300 - $500.  For example, the Parrot AR Drone, which has a range of about 50 meters, costs $300 at Toys R Us.  And sales for this drone has exceeded 500,000!  So yes, this can be fun for some people, but also dangerous for others.  What do you think?

Judge Dredd

Because I was not feeling so good over the holidays,
I stayed home and watched TV a lot.
One of the movies I watched was Dredd 3D
I thought it was pretty good.
Yeah it's a B-Movie but it is not too serious
and has some great action and special effects.
No the story is not deep,
and the characters are kind of simple,
but I thought it was good fun.
4/5
:Phil
Also make sure you see the new one,
not the old one with Sylvester Stallone.
That one is really REALLY bad.

Sick

Unfortunately over the new years holiday I was very sick.
Which is a very VERY bad sore throat and a fever.
I thought it was just a cold at first,
but after 5 days it was still getting worse,
so I went to the doctor and he gave me some antibiotics.
 I'm feeling much better now
(although I think I now do have a little bit of a cold)
