What....?

Ok this is rhyming slang that is used a lot in the UK
and sometimes in Australia. It's really easy all you have to do
is match the last word of the slang phrase with the
word it rhymes with from the meaning column.

A or An ???

When should we use a or an? This has been coming up in a lot of classes lately so I thought I would also talk about it here. The grammar rule states that an is used when the following word starts with a vowel: a, e, i, o, u. But an is used not only when the word starts with a vowel, but it is also used with words that sound like they begin with a vowel. For an example, look at the word hour, that would sound funny if you said a hour even though according to the rule, a is what you are taught to use. So if you are wondering which to use say the word out loud to see if it sounds right. An hour, or An honest person. Because they have a silent h they are used with an. I hope this helps! :)

Because he had no-body to go with!

Last weekend I......

...went to Uji in Kyoto to see the Byodoin temple on the 10 yen coin. I had green tea soba for lunch and despite the heavy rains all day, we had a great time sightseeing. Later in the day we went to a famous cafe to get warm and dry. Of course we all tried some green tea sweets and tea! It was so delicious!

Father Mouse jumped and said, "Bow-wow!"
The cat ran away.
"What was that, Father?" asked Baby Mouse.
"Well, son, that's why it's important to learn a second language!"
