Do you know what a GIF file is?  Well, it stands for Graphic Interchange Format.  It was introduced to the Web in 1987 and has become a worldwide used format for picture files.  One of its distinct characteristics is the ability to support animation.  For example:

So you probably have seen these type of pictures before.  And most people pronounce it the way it looks, "GIF."  But according to Steve Wilhite, it is pronounced "JIF."  What?!  Maybe it takes after words like "giraffe" pronounced "jiraffe."
