Laugh off
v.
To dismiss with a laugh as not important
or not serious; not take seriously.
"You can't laugh off a ticket for speeding."
(You must take a speeding ticket seriously.)

Speak of the devil

"Speak of the devil
and he appears"

A person comes just when one is talking about them.

"We were just talking about Bill when he came in the door.
Speak of the devil and he appears."

(Bill came when we were talking about him
and did not expect him.)

Prospect

Among orange-tile rooftops
and chimney pots
the fen fog slips,
gray as rats,

while on spotted branch
of the sycamore
two black rooks hunch
and darkly glare,

watching for night,
with absinthe eye
cocked on the lone, late,
passer-by.

Takatsuki Jazz Festival

During Golden week I went to the Takatsuki jazz festival. I've never been before but I have heard many people recommend it. Honestly I didn't think it was that great. It was overcrowded, not very well organized and poorly laid out. I got there at about 4pm which was bad timing as it was when the festival changes over from the outdoor market style to inside bar style. There were so many people cramped into tiny spaces, and the music was... well... not that good. Improve jazz? Just play anything you like? Yeah I guess that nonsense sounds like music. I don't think anyone really likes jazz that much, it is just fashionable to pretend you do. Ooooh look at me I'm wearing a stupid hat and listening to something that sounds like someone threw a bunch of instruments into a washing machine... I'm so cool :P
