What I did on the weekend...

Well this is a bit late but last Monday I went to see the new
Chris Nolan / Leonardo DiCaprio movie...

All the reviews said it was great but I thought it was stupid, the story was predictable and unoriginal. And the acting... well I normally wouldn't go see a DiCaprio movie (I really don't like him) but I really like Chris Nolan's movies (Memento & The Dark Night) and everyone said I had to see this one, but... He is almost unwatchable, I can't understand why he is such a famous actor... so if you want to see a good movie about dreams watch "The Cell" "Paprika" or even the "Wizard of Oz" and give "Inception" a miss.

Photo of the week!

Thank you Hiroshi for this amazing photo taken at the RLE Summer Party last weekend. I think it really captured the moment. What do you think?

I went to see TOY STORY 3 last weekend.
It was pretty good.
Nothing amazing, kind of like the first 2,
but I liked the first 2 so I enjoyed this one as well.
It was very nostalgic
(the first movie was 15 years ago)
and some of the new characters are very cute.

Did any of you understand the sentence above? Well, if you grew up in Hawaii, you probably understand what it said. That is pidgin English. A lot of people in Hawaii speak like this, so if you have trouble understanding what people are saying, don't worry! Your English is not bad! They are speaking pidgin to you so you cannot understand.
Here is an example of pidgin English and "normal" English.

Pidgin: What you wen do last night during da game? I hope you wen suck um up good brah!

English: So what did you end up doing last night during the game? I really hope that you were able to drink a few beers my friend.

Stay tuned next time for another lesson in pidgin English. Shoots den cuz! Take it easy!

Cup of tea Governor?

(Take that stupid aliens)

Tomorrow is the 4th of July
which is the United States Independence Day.
We all know that Independence Day is when Will Smith saved
America and the rest of the world from aliens right..?
Ha just kidding!
It is to celebrate the independence or "freedom"
of the US from control by the British.

(The "Boston tea party" is believed to be one of the many
events that sparked the war of independence.)

Here is a trivia question for you.
In English we sometimes use the idiom
"John Hancock" for signature.
So if someone asks for your John Hancock
they want you to sign your name.
But who was John Hancock?
