Just for fun

What colours do you think the days of the week are?

Please post your opinions in the comments section below.

There is no right or wrong answer,

but I think Wednesday is "green".

I don't know why though.

What do you think?

  1. In Japan, we express the days of the week in elements.
    So, I think...
    Sunday(Sun):Gold, Monday(Moon):Yellow, Tuesday(Fire):Red, Wednesday(Water):Blue, Thursday(Tree):Green, Friday(Metal):Silver, Satureday(Earth):Brown

  2. Interesting, the English weekday names come from the Roman names for Greek gods. Monday from Luna (the moon so maybe white, the Japanese moon is yellow?) Tuesday from Mars (Ares god of war so maybe red??) Wednesday from Mercury (Hermes god of money so gold I guess) Thursday from Jupiter (Zeus god of the sky and storms perhaps blue?) Friday from Venus (Aphrodite goddess of love, but I already used red so how about pink or purple?) Saturday from Saturn (Cronus titan of agriculture so probably brown or green) And finally Sunday from Sol (Helios god of the sun which would be orange or yellow I think) Strange that some of the elements match up Sat/sun/Mon hmmm . . . .

  3. The Japanese weekday names come from the ancient Chinese theory as well as the English weekly names come from the Greek gods. It is called the Wu Xing in Chinese, the Five Movements in Japanese. The Five Movements describes all things are composed of five elements. They are Fire, Water, Tree (Wood), Metal and Earth (Soil).
Ancient Chinese was utilizing the Five Movements for the weekday names. When western calendar was brought to China, they matched the western weekday names to the Chinese names. They called Tuesday “Day of Fire”, Wednesday “Day of Water”, Thursday “Day of Tree”, Friday “Day of Metal” and Saturday “Day of Earth”. This system was introduced to Japan by a Japanese monk went to China more than one thousand year ago, but it got popular approx. 120 years ago.
And one more thing, Mars, Mercury, Jupiter, Venus and Saturn are Planet of Fire, Planet of Water, Planet of Tree, Planet of Metal and Planet of Earth in Japanese.
