(They put their coats on a hook.)
2. To end a telephone call.
"Carol's mother told her she had talked long enough
on the phone and made her hang up."
(Her mother made her finish the call.)
"I said something that made Joe angry,
and he hung up on me."
(Joe suddenly ended the call.)

1. A delay in some process.
"The mail had been late for several days,
there must be a hang up somewhere."
(There must be some trouble/delay with the mail service.)
2. A neurotic reaction to a situation,
stemming from a previous traumatic experience.
"Her hang ups about relationships stop her from being happy."
(Previous bad relationships have
made her paranoid/overly suspicious)
