Idiom of the day!

HANG OUT
v. slang
To spend one's time idly or lounging about.
"The teacher complained that Joe was hanging
out in the billiard hall instead of doing his homework."
(Joe was spending time idling in the billiard hall.)
*Note
Adults don't play with friends,
they hang out with friends.
It sounds very childish to say
"I played with my friends,"
if you are no longer in elementary school.

  1. Thank you! I didn't know that "I played with my friends" sounds childish. Next time when a teacher asks me "What did you do last weekend?," I will try to answer more specific, like "I went shopping with my friends" or "I played Wii games with my friends."
